I'm recruiting on behalf of a well-established and forward-thinking engineering firm based in Beccles, who are looking to bring an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer into their growing design team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to create innovative mechanical design solutions for various projects.
- Take a lead role in concept development and transform ideas into detailed 3D CAD models.
- Apply sound mechanical engineering principles to overcome complex design challenges.
- Produce factory and machine layouts in 2D CAD.
- Generate accurate and detailed bills of materials and parts lists for mechanical assemblies.
- Participate in meetings with project teams, suppliers, and clients to fully understand and deliver mechanical requirements.
- Ensure all designs comply with current regulations, standards, and company procedures.
- Support the Sales team with design input for quotations and project costings.
- Provide hands-on technical support throughout build, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Effectively manage workload to deliver designs in line with project timelines.
- Continuously seek ways to improve design quality and processes.
Candidate Requirements:
- Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally within the automation or special purpose machinery industry.
- HNC/HND or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
- Highly proficient in 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks), with strong design-for-manufacture experience.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar data management tools is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and mechanical components.
- Meticulous attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach to design.
- Effective time management and the ability to juggle multiple projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A passion for innovation and engineering excellence.
