About the Role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the continued success of Cambridge Vacuum Engineering by providing outstanding customer service worldwide. Your primary responsibilities will include providing maintenance, installation, repairs, and technical support for our product range, including electron beam welders, laser welders, and vacuum furnaces. This role requires travel to customer sites globally, working with both customers and internal teams to ensure high service standards.
You will collaborate with our service teams in the UK, USA, and China to provide remote support and manage customer requirements efficiently. Your technical expertise and commitment to customer satisfaction will directly contribute to the company's ongoing success in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Support: Provide high-quality support at customer sites worldwide, including maintenance, calibration, repairs, upgrades, installation, commissioning, and training on electron beam welders, laser welders, and vacuum furnaces.
- Remote Assistance: Work alongside service teams across the UK, USA, and China to offer remote support to customers quickly and effectively.
- Documentation: Ensure all relevant paperwork, including reports, timesheets, and expense claims, are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Pre-Delivery Acceptance: Participate in customer pre-delivery acceptance visits to ensure product specifications and requirements are met.
- Sales and Training Support: Assist with customer sales visits, meetings, and local exhibitions as required. Promote sales of spare parts and service work to the customer base. Train company personnel when necessary.
- Self-Development: Participate in training programs to ensure both technical and behavioral skills meet company and customer expectations.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with other departments to meet customer requirements and provide ongoing support.
- General Support: Provide assistance with any other activities as requested by the Line Manager, particularly during periods of absence from other service team members.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Ideally, experience working with high voltage systems and/or vacuum technologies. Knowledge of electron beam and laser welding systems is a significant advantage.
- Customer Service: Strong customer service skills with the ability to adapt to and meet customer requirements effectively.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical vocabulary. Able to communicate clearly and confidently with both colleagues and customers independently.
- Problem Solving: Proactive and able to use initiative to ensure the highest standards of customer service.
- Work Under Pressure: Ability to manage work pressure, particularly in the field, while maintaining quality standards.
- Teamwork: A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Minimum Qualifications:
- HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
- Clean and valid driver's license.
- No restrictions on travel (UK or internationally).
- No criminal charges preventing security clearance approval.
